GATHER AND RECORD INFORMATION

·       Follow your planned method step by step to gather the information.

·       Experiments - ensure that the apparatus function correctly, strictly control the variables to ensure validity, at least 3 repetitions necessary for reliability of data.

·       Questionnaires – at least 100, written permission of participants necessary.

·       Interviews and case studies - written permission of participant necessary, get their full details to later include in acknowledgements.

·       Photos – get permission to take the photograph, make notes of where, when and who took the photo.

·       Building models – it must be a working model, at least 2 proto types necessary where each one is an improvement of the previous one.

FROM PLAN, TO ACTION

ANALYSE AND DISCUSS THE RESULTS

•Explain the data of tables or graphs in words.

•Look for trends or patterns.

•Point out anomalies/ abnormalities/ inconsistencies.

•Look for relationships, causes, consequences.

•Make comparisons – similarities, differences.

•Comparison with other studies done

•Strengths and weaknesses of own study

•Applications of findings or new knowledge

•Possible errors and limitations.

•Unanswered questions - future research

EVALUATE THE RESULTS

•Was the method optimally suited for its purpose?

•Were your readings accurate enough?

•Was the correct apparatus used?

•Is the method repeatable?

•Were ethical guidelines followed?

•Were there any inconsistent or irregular results? If so, how can it be explained?

•Where are the gaps and limitations in the research conducted?

•Do you need to change the procedure and repeat the experiment?

DRAW A CONCLUSION/S

•It is a statement that says if the hypothesis was correct or not / whether your results support or contradict your hypothesis.

•(Engineering & programming projects should state whether they met their design criteria).

•Must be based on own data, not that in literature.

•The results could be summarised shortly to support the conclusion.

•Key facts from a background research can help explain results if needed.
